  • How can I have more impact on food waste?
Build your community of neighbours to facilitate donations. Why ? Gathering neighbours living in the same neighbourhood (same block or same street) into the Food Next Door app makes donations and sharing easy. In fact, closeness and trust are the two keys to end food waste efficiently. On one hand, having your neighbours to the Food Next Door app allows you to access and share surplus from next door. On the other hand, the neighbourhood feed allows you to discuss, ask, help and build greater relationships with your neighbours. How ? If your own neighbourhood community hasn’t been built yet, the only thing to do is adding your neighbours to the app. And then it’s done ! Getting involved by adding your neighbours will make you become a Food Next Door ambassador among others who have been able to stop wasting in their neighbourhood after they registered their interest and built their own community. Once you’ve registered your interest, you’ll receive full support from our team to make sure we build your community the way you want, depending on your neighbourhood and what you are comfortable doing. The two ways of adding your neighbours to the app are : Knocking on their doors a few times (alone, with a friend, your mum… whatever you prefer), tell them about Food Next Door, take their number and invite them to the App with a link (accessible through the app) or with a QR code they can scan. (90% of neighbours who open their door join Food Next Door with this method) Distributing flyers in their mailboxes, with a QR code for them to join the App. (20% of neighbours who receive a flyer in their mailbox join Food Next Door with this method) What are the benefits? Make your entire neighbourhood a 0 waste one. Feel good with yourself. Become the reason why your entire neighbourhood has stopped food waste. Get to know your neighbours. Build greater relationships so you can count on them when needed. Get free access to the app. After having added (at least) 20 registered neighbours to the app, you’ll get free access to our platform and its services; you’ll never have to pay the monthly fee. It means you’ll get free food and free stuff from neighbours, from restaurants and shops around you. Get rewarded from being a 0-waste hero. Receive a surprise right into your mailbox after you finished building your community as a huge thank you for helping reduce food waste. Be part of a community of people who share the same interests. We organise social events with our ambassadors crew, dinners, parties, drinks regularly so we can all enjoy, discuss, and have a good time in the coolest places of the city. Refer-A-Friend Refer a friend(s) so they can stop food waste in their neighbourhood. Let them join and enjoy the movement as well! Update your profile settings Under the profile settings section, informing about your food preferences is a great way to be notified anytime someone shares something you might want or request something you might have. That way you increase your chances of saving items from waste. Update your notification settings Being notified about food items that are going to expire, about food that you’re likely to have or want, is a good way for you to be reminded to either, sharing or saving something that is about to be thrown away and to increase your impact on food waste and on the environment.
  • How can I share safely?
When sharing food and objects with your neighbours, please follow these guidelines to ensure safety and well-being for everyone: 1. Food Safety Check expiry and use-by-date. Only donate food items that are within their expiration date and have been stored properly. Check Allergens and provide information. Check if any food items contain common allergens (e.g., nuts, dairy, gluten) to help those with allergies make informed decisions. 2. Cleanliness Sanitize Items. If donating non-food items, ensure they are clean and sanitized. This includes cleaning any reusable containers or utensils. Avoid Contamination. Handle all items with clean hands or gloves to prevent contamination. Follow the 5 steps to wash your hands the right way. When receiving food, feel free to bring your own bag if necessary 3. Proper Storage Temperature Control. For perishable food items, ensure they are kept at the correct temperature until they reach their destination. Use coolers or ice packs if necessary. Dry Storage. Store non-perishable items in a dry, cool place to maintain their quality. 4. Transparency Provide Information. When donating items, provide a brief description of the item’s condition and any relevant details (e.g., dietary restrictions, usage instructions). Be Honest. If an item is not in good condition or past its prime, it’s better not to donate it. 5. Respect Privacy Confidentiality Do not share personal information or sensitive details about neighbours when exchanging items. Respect Requests. Follow any specific instructions or requests from your neighbours regarding the handling or collection of items. 6. Communication Confirm Details Before finalizing the donation, confirm the details with your neighbour to ensure mutual understanding and agreement on the item being shared. Address Concerns. If there are any issues or concerns about an item, communicate them clearly and promptly. By adhering to these guidelines, we can ensure a safe and positive experience for everyone involved in the Food Next Door community. Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to sharing responsibly!

  • What's Food Next Door revenue model?
Food Next Door’s mission is to end food waste in every neighbourhood of the world. We found out the best method for saving food is by bringing neighbours together so they can share any surplus anytime they want, in a few minutes. We bring people together, people who care about food waste, people who want to have greater relationships with their neighbours and people who want to access free food rather than buy something that a neighbour is about to throw away. Building communities through an app requires a lot of resources and investment and from our first users’ feedback, we chose to enable users to test the app during a FREE TRIAL of 3 months and to pay a monthly fee of £3,99 after they have seen the value of it. Users can cancel their membership anytime they want.
  • Why a membership fee ?

Building Stronger Communities Enhanced Trust and Safety: The fee supports features that build trust among users, such as enhanced verification processes and safety measures. This ensures a safer and more reliable environment for exchanging food and goods. Community Support: Membership fees fund community-building activities and resources that help users connect on a deeper level, share experiences, and support each other, strengthening neighborhood ties. Ensuring Quality and Accountability High Standards: The membership model allows us to maintain high standards for both the quality of items shared and the behavior of users. This helps ensure that donations are reliable and that the community operates with integrity and respect. Feedback and Support: A membership fee provides resources for better customer service and support, allowing us to address user feedback effectively and make necessary adjustments to improve the app experience. Promoting Long-Term Engagement Commitment to the Cause: Charging a membership fee encourages users to be more committed to the app's goals of reducing waste and fostering community. It also helps us attract users who are genuinely invested in the values of the platform. Sustained Participation: The fee supports initiatives to keep users actively engaged and participating in the community, ensuring a vibrant and dynamic platform for everyone. By paying a membership fee after the initial free trial, users contribute to the longevity and success of the Food Next Door app. It ensures that we can continue to provide a valuable service that benefits the environment, supports local communities, and fosters meaningful connections between neighbours.
